A Child's Heart

Check out this cool fly swatter cover from semilife99 on Etsy!  Its only $5!!
Last night, I had to make a run to Giant Chain Retailer Whom I Despise.  Our fly swatters broke (thanks to Little Man), and flies are incredibly thick this year.  Anyhow, we searched that dang store high and low, and they were no where to be found.  Finally, I walked up to an employee, and said "Could you puhleeeeese tell me where the fly swatters are?"  I was tired, and very sore (another story, another day!), and just wanted to get the heck out of that shopping hell.

He cupped his hands over his ears, then handed me a notepad and a pen.  He was deaf, and my sign language is very, very limited.  I wrote my request, and he smiled, and motioned for me to follow him to where the swatters were supposed to be, but alas, there were none.  Story of my life.  He texted another person to see if they had more.  We stood there for about 5 minutes, waiting to find out.

In moments of awkward silence, people will start talking just because it comforts them, and this was no exception.  Only rather than talking we (sort of) signed, and wrote back and forth.  I found out he was from Amarillo, had been out of a job for quite some time.  I wrote that I was happy that he found a job, and he responded that he was thankful, but had learned to rely on God more lately.  I signed as much as I could, and thankfully, he was patient.  Finally, we learned that they were completely sold out of fly swatters.  Thanks, World's Biggest Retailer.

I was frustrated and annoyed that I had to get out because flies were annoying Barb Wire Man.  I could barely walk I was in so much pain.   I was annoyed at every single thing about that trip.  Then God really convicted me of how incredibly petty I was being.  Barb Wire Man has a job.  We have a wonderful home, a happy and healthy family.    I have a hard time hearing out of my left ear, but I've heard my children's laughter.

When we got to the car, I looked at Flower who had tears streaming down her face.  "Mama", she said, "I don't get it.  He seemed so happy.  He told you he loved God.  But he can't hear.  His life must be so hard, and I just wanted to hug him, Mama."  She has always had a very loving heart, and would never mock another person.  But, like a Mama should, told her to remember this day, and that anytime she felt like laughing at someone to think back about how she felt.

She cried all the way home.  She cried while telling Daddy about what happened.  I know as she grows older, she will become hardened to things.  It happens to all of us, and frankly, it sucks.  Flower didn't know that man from Adam, but she cared for him simply because he was another human being.  She could see his struggle, and wanted to help.  Many adults would have gotten annoyed at having to "deal" with him.

I want to be a little girl again.  I want to have that child-like love, and see each person not for who they truly are; a gift from God.

This cute charm from loveformemories is only $10.00!

I added my three favorite coupon buttons back, because there were TONS of great coupons in the the Sunday paper!  Be sure to click on those, and sign up to get all the free coupons you can!  Be blessed today!

Ashley, I've always told God that the only thing I long for is that my children grow to have God's heart for others. I'm so grateful to see that happening!
